Happy World Ballet Day

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Ballet is the passion that unites us and today - for one day only and thanks to the magic of the internet - Ballet Papier fans can enjoy a glimpse into the lives of some of the world’s most talented ballet dancers!

World Ballet Day LIVE, the marathon live-stream featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the top ballet companies on the planet, is a now-annual event that brings ballet lovers across the globe together to share in the sheer joy of watching professional dancers practise and perform.

Of course, in my world, and for many others in the Ballet Papier community, every day is ballet day!

I fill as many of my waking hours as possible with ballet classes and am privileged to be able to spend my working life engaging in dance writing, reviewing, studying and teaching. And, when I get some free moments, I spend my time online gazing admiringly at Berenice’s beautiful drawings of ballerinas; looking through stunning photographs of dancers on Instagram; and watching awesome videos of dancers on YouTube.

Unsurprisingly, I love any excuse to indulge in my passion for ballet - World Ballet Day is a MUST!

One day. Five ballet companies. Live and Online.

Just for today, The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet will open up their studios to audiences. We will have the chance to observe each company’s morning class, watch rehearsals and hear from choreographers, directors and the dancers themselves.

All five ballet companies have also invited nearby regional dance organisations to be part of World Ballet Day LIVE 2016.

These guest companies are: Hong Kong Ballet, Queensland Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Ballets de Monte Carlo, Nederlands Dans Theater, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, English National Ballet, Estonian National Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, La Scala Ballet Company, Northern Ballet, Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, Polish National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, The Royal Swedish Ballet, Wiener Staatsballett, Boston Ballet, Miami Ballet, Ballet Nacional Sodre and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

With 20 hours of non-stop broadcasting to enjoy, what are you waiting for? Grand jeté your way over to http://worldballetday.com/ to experience World Ballet Day LIVE 2016.
